Wine "Chateau La Tonnelle" is a blend of three varieties dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and also Merlot and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested from vines whose average age is 25 years, but there are berries from the old vines 40 years. Carefully selected grapes undergo a fermentation and maceration for 3-4 weeks with a daily double pumping to extract maximum color and flavor. Then the wine is aged one year in oak barrels. "Chateau La Tonnelle" has a wonderful storage capacity, after several years in which tannic structure softens and gives way to a charming velvety taste.In the nineteenth century, the vineyards of Chateau La Tunnel was part of the lands Picourneau. It is known that in 1850 the famous wine Picourneau took first place in the commune of Vertheuil, as evidenced by the entry in the "Guide fere." 1982 Chateau La Tunnel is owned by the Fabre family, which also owns a nice Chateau Lamothe Cissac. Fabre family has replanted the vineyards and built a new winery for wine Chateau again ranked among the best. The vineyards are located on the hills of the village of Vertheuil, 8 kilometers West of Saint Estephe, on the fertile layer of gravel, resting on a deep clay and gravelly subsoil. The roots of the vines are able to penetrate deep into this great terroir, which gives tannin and sweet style, so characteristic of wines O Medoc. The vineyard area is 29 hectares. Here are grown Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (35%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
