Interesting facts

"Mercurey Premier Cru Les Ruelles" is an elegant red wine from the domain "Chateau de Chamirey", created from grapes Pinot Noir, grown in the municipality of Mercury (Burgundy). The vineyard is located on clay and chalky soil. Harvested by hand, and then separated from the ridges. Alcoholic fermentation takes 15 to 18 days and takes place in open tanks under strict temperature control. Then the wine is poured into oak barrels, of which 30-40% are new, where it aged for 12-18 months. After aging the wine is bottled in traditional Burgundy branded bottles. "Mercurey Premier Cru Les Ruelles" can be drunk immediately or in the next 6-8 years. Chateau de Chamirey is an elegant castle built by order of the family Dupaty de clam in the early 18th century. Executed under the influence of fashion trends at the time Italian architecture, it was built on a rocky promontory overlooking the vineyards of Mercurey. The modern look of the castle acquired in the late 18th century after a fire. In 1932 the estate was purchased by the Marquis de Guano, initiated 2 years later at the Chateau for the first time began to pour the wine. Over time, the leadership château de Shamire moved to Bertrand Deviare — in-law of the Marquis. Thanks to him, the area of vineyards owned by the family, has expanded to the current 38.5 hectares, about half of them are classified as Premier Cru and is located on the best terroirs of Mercurey. The average age of the vines is approximately 35 years. Most of the vineyards occupy the red varieties and only about 30% of the land is reserved for whites. Currently the estate is run by the grandchildren of the Marquis de Jouennes — Amara and Aurora Devilyar, representing the fifth generation of winemakers. Chateau de Chamirey produces not only wine under its own brand, but bottled wines produced in other farms belonging to the "Domaine Devillard" — Domaine des Perdrix, Domaine du Cellier aux Moines, Domaine de la ferté and Domaine de La Garenne.
