"1851" — line, named in honor of the year of the founding of the winery Okagawa and offering a variety of wines from different valleys, which Express the history of Chile and the legacy of the founder of the winery. These reserve wines, created from grapes of high quality, correspond to two principles: innovation and tradition. "1851" Merlot Reserva is a very harmonious, elegant and full-bodied wine with a velvety taste, excellent balance and a fruity bouquet. The wine is made from Merlot grapes grown in the vineyards of the Colchagua valley, one of the most reputable wine regions of Chile, which is particularly suitable for the cultivation of red grapes. The location of the vineyards in the foothills of the Andes and the influence of coastal breezes are favorable conditions for growing Merlot. Fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation lasts more than one week. Aging takes place in American and French oak barrels for 6 months. To integrate wood notes in the bouquet of the wine is a mixture of new and used barrels. After bottling the wine aged for 3 months.The magazine "Vinum" wrote about the wines Merlot Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva line "1851": "the categorically good! Both belong to the recommended wines of the region".Ochagavia Chilean winery, founded Silvestre Ochagavia 1851. It was a very educated man, known for his social and political views. He was the first who brought to Chile grape varieties such as Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Malbec and Merlot, as well as winemaking experience from France. Planting of the vines and construction of the first wineries became the basis for the creation of home wine Ochagavia. Favorable climatic conditions of the vineyards allow the grapes to ripen fully and have a wonderful flavor and concentration. Ochagavia winery contributed to change Chilean wine history, and therefore Silvestre Ochagavia is called the father of modern Chilean winemaking. His wines are a clear example of Chilean wines from international grape varieties which have great potential, great value "price-quality", which combines loyalty to the old wine-making traditions and the spirit of the New world.
