Interesting facts

Spice route Chenin Blanc is a bold full-bodied wine, made from grapes from vines not subjected to irrigation, from the vineyards of Swartland. The average age of vines: 34 years, soil — characteristic of South Africa a mixture of sand and gravel. Harvested grapes are separated from the combs, after soft pressing the juice is poured in 48 hours in French barriques before the start of fermentation. After alcoholic fermentation the malolactic and then the wine is aged 11 months in oak barrels. The history of the company Spice route originated in 1997, when a successful winemaker Charles Back bought a farm called Klein Amoxil, better known for its wheat than wine. It was the first step in implementing the philosophy of "wine should reflect the terroir." In just two years the manor was a revolution — was planted new varieties of white and red grapes which never grew in South Africa. With the help of their like-minded friends — oenologists, wine critics and simply "activists" — Charles Back quickly succeeded. The year 2005 was marked by the acquisition of vineyards on the hills of the darling region, which today is grown Sauvignon Blanc. The name of the company reflects the overall philosophy of the manufacturer who does not fear difficulties and is associated with the brave sailors of the 15th century who have made the dangerous, but exciting, journey in the Way of spices.
