The grapes for the production of Barolo wine, the "Colonnello" is grown in the vineyard in the area Colonnello Bussia Soprana, which is located on top of a hill. The average age of the vines on a plot of about 40-45 years. Soil — marl containing iron. The grapes are harvested manually in mid-October. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 28 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Wine storage capacity is 25-30 years. In the nineteenth century, the forefathers of Aldo Conterno emigrated to Argentina, but after a few years was forced to go back to Italy. It was then that Giovanni Conterno brought his family in a small winemaking farm of his father in Monforte d'alba, where he began to help him to make wine. Since the arrival of Giovanni in the business increased significantly the production of wine, which was sold in casks not only in Piemonte and Liguria but also in America, thanks to the relatives who stayed in Argentina. In accordance with market demand, the Conterno family felt the need to create a Barolo that would be made exclusively from the best vintages. In 1920, they released their first Barolo wine. In the 30-ies of the Giovanni handed over the reins of the business to his son Giacomo, who continued the tradition of his father. In subsequent years, his sons Giovanni and Aldo began to help his father run the business. In the mid 50-ies, Aldo decided to go to America with the aim of creating a wine business and helping his uncle, who lived in California. This period in the United States was very constructive and unforgettable for Aldo, but for some reason he had to leave the country and return to Italy in the family business.
