Interesting facts

"Teso la Monja" is a premium wine made from grapes grown on the same vineyard. The vineyard is situated on pebbly-gravel soil with a high content of calcium and occupies an area of 1.8 hectares. For growing grapes it uses biodynamic farming methods. All work on the manufacture of wine is carried out manually. So the grapes used for the production of "Teso La Monja", is being pressed personally for Eduardo Acurenam, son of Marcos Eguren. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in special wooden tanks, which has a characteristic egg shape. The wine is aged in new barrels of French oak for 24 months. This unique approach puts the wine in the category of the great wines of Spain. Wine "Teso la Monja" produced a very limited edition, and it has developed a unique gift package — wooden box made of beech, repeating egg-shaped barrels in which the wine was aged. In 2010, they released only 800 bottles of "Teso La Monja". Dynasty Eguren (Eguren) is winemaking in the Rioja region since the 70-ies of the 19th century. This is a very dear family has made an enormous contribution to the development of winemaking and was one of the first to make great terroir wines, intelligently combining centuries-old traditions and the latest achievements in the field of winemaking and viticulture. Currently, the Eguren brothers owned the three farms Rioja — Bodegas Sierra Cantabria, Senorio de San Vicente and Vinedos de Paganos, the chief oenologist of which is Marcos Eguren is the best specialist in the region.In 2007, the new winery Teso La Monja (Teso la Monja) acquired by the Eguren family, was first produced 3 new brands of wine, created by Markus Acurenam. The territory of the wine region of Toro is influenced by the river Douro, has a special microclimate that promotes excellent growth of the vines. Renowned winemaker works with the local grapes of Tinta de Toro, which is characterized by low yields, but synthesizes a large number of polyphenols, which give the drinks a special structure and aromaticity. Despite the "youth" currently, Teso La Monja produces excellent wines such as "Victorino", "Almirez", "Alabaster" and "Romanico", a new generation of "classic" red wines of Spain.

Tasting Characteristics

The wine has dark cherry color with purple rim.
Expressive bouquet of the wine reveals aromas of ripe fruit, hints of spice, notes of burnt toast, hints of cocoa.
The taste of the wine is powerful, round, elegant, with long fine tannins, toasty notes and a long finish.
Wine is a great accompaniment for a gourmet meat, foie Gras, ripe and aged cheeses.
