Interesting facts

"The Olive Grove", 2011 — a delicious white wine with a complex, layered taste, intense aroma with hints of citrus, white fruit and light notes of oak. Moderate coastal climate and sandy, containing limonite, soils of McLaren Vale favor abundant vegetation, planting almonds, pine forests and olive groves. The latter landed the first settlers in this area of Australia along the vineyards. Starting in the 1840's, olive trees spread everywhere, even in the vineyards, including in the middle of the plot with Chardonnay, the winery owned by "d'arenberg".To create a wine "Olive grove" is selected fragrant Chardonnay, grown in the warm climate of McLaren Vale and Chardonnay with subtle floral and fruity bouquet of cool vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. At the winery the grapes went through the crusher with rubber teeth "Demoisy", after which he was treated in the bale baskets. Neat juicing is crucial to preserve tenderness Chardonnay. The juice was active fermentation and was subject to aging on the lees with regular stirring to add complexity to the taste. Aging of wine were made in new and old French and American oak barrels and in stainless steel. To preserve the fresh, natural acidity that affects the balance and longevity of wine, malolactic fermentation is not applied. The story of one of the most significant wineries in McLaren Vale began in 1912, when Joseph Osborn purchased 25 hectares of vineyards in the hills North of Bellevue. Son of Joseph Francis increased the size of the vineyard to 78 hectares and to the completion in 1928 of its own winery, sold the harvest to local winemakers, and later established their own production of dry red and fortified wines. His son, Francis d'arenberg Osborn, known as d Arry at age 16, after leaving school in 1943, connecting to the father, and in 1957, fully took over managing the winery. In 1959, he launches under its own brand name "d'arenberg", named in honor of his mother Frances Helena d'arenberg. Wine immediately received cult status among connoisseurs, critics and judges. In 2004, Francis d'arenberg Osborn was awarded the Order of Australia for his contribution to the wine industry in the region McLaren Vale. Francis is very proud of its achievements in the development of internationally recognized wines, commonly known as "Red lane" due to the distinctive diagonal red stripe that adorns the label of wine "d'arenberg".The representative of the fourth generation, Chester d'arenberg, after graduating from College Rosworth and gain practical experience in a number of Australian and European wine regions, he took the reins of "d'arenberg" as chief winemaker in 1984. He immediately proceeded to return to the vineyards of the family the traditional practice of growing grapes with a minimum cost and without artificial pollination, with irrigation to the extent possible, with very low yields. The winemaking processes of the past were preserved, unique wines are made in small batches and perfectly convey the nature of class and a true taste of the region McLaren Vale.
