Interesting facts

Chateau Giraudot Rouge — a well-balanced, elegant red wine made from the traditional Bordeaux red grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc. Grapes for wine are grown in the province of Jarnac, on clay-limestone soils with a rocky bottom layer. Limiting yields and strict selection of healthy and fully ripe berries allow to obtain high quality wines with excellent taste characteristics. Long maceration and aging the wine in oak barrels give the wine a good structure with powerful tannins. Girod Chateau was built in the XVIII century in the center of entre de Mer, in a place called Harnack. In the 80-ies of XX century was made complete reconstruction of the castle and of the winery. The vineyards of Chateau is situated on the slopes of small hills, located around the castle, on marl soils. The vineyard area is quite big — 335 acres. It is mostly grown red grapes, and only 30 hectares are devoted to white varieties. The average age of the vines is 20-30 years. The yield of the vines is strictly limited, the grapes are harvested manually at the peak of ripeness.
