Interesting facts

Wine "Els Escurcons" produced from the grape variety Garnacha Tinta grown on one of the highest vineyards of the Priorat region. Farm ELS of Excursions, which takes the name of the wine, is located in Gratallops at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level with exposure to the South and South-West. Special soil characteristics and the abundance of oxygen give the grapes and later wine a unique taste. The grapes are harvested by hand in 12 kg capacity, and then at the winery it is carefully sorted. Fermented fruits with the skins in large oak barrels for 26 days under strictly controlled temperatures. Upon completion of alcoholic fermentation the resulting mash is pressed and undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 12-14 months in French oak barrels. "ELS of Excursions" the 2009 vintage will be at the peak of its maturity in the period from 2014 to 2025.A small winery Mas Martinet is based Jose Luis Perez — the pioneer of Priorat, along with Alvaro Palacios, Rene Barbier and Carles Pastrana, who in 1989 created his first wine. Vineyards with a total area of 7 hectares located around the winery on the banks of the river Siurana, between the village of Gratallops and Falset. Other vineyards 3 hectares scattered around the zone of the Priorat DOQ, including the old vineyards near the town of Porrera, planted with varieties Cariñena and Garnacha, and the new site, located high above the Gratallops. Today, the main face of the winery is Sara Perez, daughter of Jose Luis Perez, who is ranked among the best oenologist in Spain. All the wines are organic farms.

The wine is characterized by strong, expressive aroma with hints of BlackBerry, white pepper and minerals.
The taste of wine — harmonious, balanced, replete with berry and mineral undertones. The finish is soft, silky, reveals hints of cherry, black currant and spice.
The wine is ideal for dishes of meat, poultry, goes well with cheese and bacon.
